Mixed-Media Installations by Annette Messager
“Mainly known for her installation work, French artist Annette Messager often incorporates photographs, prints and drawing into a final sculptural project.”
finally: a rant from somebody who feels the same way i do about art (i love making it. i love looking at innovative things. i hate everything else).
[edit: actually, i think there is a difference between art that has a degree behind it and art that doesn’t. but i also think that it varies between programs and individuals as well. but art without a concept behind it only goes so far.]

A Tale Of Two Hoodies - a controversial painting by artist/activist Michael D’Antuono.
Inspired by the Trayvon Martin case, this painting symbolizes the travesty of racially profiling innocent children and how present day prejudices affect policy.
Powerful.
grant and i were talking this morning (again) about how we hate art, because there’s so much art that gets recognition/popularity and it’s doing nothing to effect any change in the world. also, because it’s so difficult to reach people through visual art. i feel like it’s so confined to its own world, especially in comparison to music.
so, it’s actually reassuring to see this getting passed around.
